BRISTOL — A suspect who had barricaded himself into his apartment gave up within 15 minutes of the Bristol Police Department deploying tear gas into his residence, the department said in a news release.

Group gives Santa OK to travel in airspace (Johnson City Press)

After careful consideration, the Johnson City Commission unanimously approved a request Thursday by “The North Pole Transportation Authority” to carry a commodity carrying conveyance (one chubby Santa Claus, a sleigh, eight reindeer and assorted elfish types) over the city’s air space on Christmas Eve night.

Distribution for Christmas Box, Angel Tree begins (Johnson City Press)

The late afternoon onset of heavy snowfall shut down the first day of the Johnson City Press Christmas Box and Salvation Angel Tree distribution two hours early Friday but not before more than 500 low-income families made their way through the commercial buildings at the Appalachian Fair to pick up their holiday food and gifts of toys and clothing for their children.
