It was a night of protest rock 'n' roll in a pure form: angry, relevant lyrics over simple guitar-bass-drum tracks. And it was outstanding.

The week ahead in music: July 23 - July 29
Two songs into Gov't Mule's set at last night's Artscape, bassist Jorgen Carlsson's amp started crackling. The four-piece paused for a minute while the roadies swapped it out, and then resumed the song, "Steppin' Lightly."

I'm throwing whatever tiny bit of impartiality I may typically posses out the window. Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers were the first concert I ever saw, way back when the Verizon Amphitheater first opened as the Riverport Amphitheater.
