Product Description

The Tony Rice Signature Model represents over 30 years of collaboration between the world's foremost flatpicking icon and SCGC's founding luthier, Richard Hoover. Today's model incorporates decades of refinement in response to players' demands and the sophisticated evolution of the master's technique. Never intended to be a copy of Mr. Rice's iconic 1934 Martin D-28, the TR Model is voiced to showcase his stellar lead work with influences from Clarence White to John Coltrane. This guitar delivers exactly what the contemporary flatpicking artist needs: substantial treble and midrange for rapid single-line lead, clean note separation for definition and the traditional bass boom without the woofy bottom end of some of the venerable Pre-war dreadnoughts. Master grade Indian Rosewood and old Sitka Spruce give this instrument a professional presence at an attainable price.Body Wood Type Indian Rosewood Back Stripe Zipper Binding Ivoroid Top Wood Type Sitka Spruce Rosette Herringbone Purfling Herringbone Bracing/Voicing Scalloped Neck Peghead Solid Square Peghead Binding None Overlay Material Ebony Headstock Inslay None Width at Nut 1-11/16 Neck Shape V with Volute Fingerboard Side Dots Black Inlay SCGC @ 12th Fret Width at 14th Fret 2-3/16 Binding Ivoroid Scale Length 25.375 Finish Top Clear Back & Sides Clear/Gloss Neck Clear/Matte Setup Pickguard Tortoise Tuners/gears Nickel open-back Dimensions Body Length 20" Body Depth 3.5-4.875" Number of Frets 22 Frets Clear of the Body 14 Lower Bout 15.5" Waist 10.5" Upper Bout 11.125"

Product Description

The new SCGC RS Sunburst model is another modern interpretation of a vintage Gibson jumbo. Santa Cruz has had great successes with their previous "Slope Shoulder Classic" inspired instruments. For these slope shoulder jumbos Santa Cruz chooses perfectly quarter sawn, narrow, stiff, spruce brace stock, and then double tapers it. The first taper extends out beyond the bridge plate and then the second taper drops to the linings. This heavily knifed bracing style is something unique to Santa Cruz developed exclusively to create the woody, dry, explosive tone that the old Gibsons were prized for. It creates a light low mass brace, while not losing the snap and explosiveness that can be the result of a scalloped bracing design.
